John O’Groats Caravan & Camping Site Welcomes Campervans, Motorhomes & Tents
We are open from March 1st to October 31st. Campervans, motorhomes, caravans and tents are welcome at John O’Groats Caravan & Camping Site at the very North of the NC500. Tents don’t need to book but try to arrive before 5pm to secure pitch.
You could be amongst the thousands of people that say each year: “We have made it, we are here, we have arrived at John O’ Groats” and receive the welcome that awaits you at the Northernmost corner of the British mainland, 874 miles from Lands End in Cornwall.
At the end of the A99 you will find the “John O’ Groats Caravan & Camping Site” on the seafront beside the“The John O Groats Brewery and Last Pub” in Scotland. From the site you can relax and share the fine panoramic views of the Pentland Firth with the birds, noteable locals including Puffins with their brightly coloured beaks. To your left you will see the Island of Stroma, three and a half kilometers from the mainland, inhabited by a seal colony and the occasional visitor.
In front of you, you will see the Orkney Islands from Hoy on your left then to South Walls, Flotta, Swona, South Ronaldsay and the Pentland Skerries at your extreme right. You will be able to see other visitors to John O’ Groats inquisitively watching you enjoying your stay, these will be grey seals swimming close to the beach.
We allow dogs but they must be kept on a lead on site at all times.
Facilities/local
We have all the facilities you expect for looking after Campervans, Caravans and Motorhomes with plugins and waste etc and everyone has the additional benefits of the John O’Groats location.
There is much to do and see in the are both to take in Highland History such as the Castle of Mey or see impressive our wide varying nature – check out the local page.
Food and drink is easy with John O’Groats as your base with takeaway, shop bought or in house catering options available.
Booking/Prices
Unless you are camping with a tent make sure you book in advance to secure your pitch.
If you are arriving in a Motorhome, Caravan or Campervan prices start at £22.50 for an up to 8m pitch plus driver and it is advisable to book in advance to secure the campsite facilities that you require. A tent plus a car starts at the same £22.50 rate with cheaper options for Bikes, Cycles and Walk on Hikers. Tents don’t need to book but are advised to arrive before 5pm to avoid disappointment.
Extra people are £3.50 each and a plugin is £9. All the other site facilities are covered by the initial camping fee.
The Campsite
Check in is available from 2pm to 8pm
The Campsite Facilities are as follows:
- A generous supply of electrical hook-ups throughout the site.
- Hot and cold water to all basins and 8 showers.
- Hand dryers, shaver points (mens) and hairdryers (ladies).
- Disabled toilet.
- Laundrette with washing machines and tumble dryers, iron, hand washing facilities and also drying area.
- Waste disposal.
- Wheely bins and fresh water points throughout the site.
- Hard surfaced roads, some hard standing pitches.
- Our site provides 90 pitches for caravans, motor homes and tents.
- WiFi available on site.
Around the Campsite
The village of John O’ Groats has a general store which incorporates a petrol station, grocers and Post Office. Across the road from the site is a Hotel which is open to non-residents for meals and a public bar. There is also a craft village, souvenir shop and 2 cafes all of which are within a short walk of the site.
This summer we have daily trips to the closeby Island of Stroma which is well worth seeing. Also in summer you can savour great Asian Food with the ‘Spicy Groats’ takeaway (very popular) and we are also visited regularly by award winning fish and chip van ‘Highland Haddy’ – check out our Facebook Page for menus/prices and timings.
